Dynamics GP (Great Plains) right out of the box: the Budgeting Wizard

No matter how demanding or unique your business needs, there are many forecasting and budgeting solutions available that work seamlessly with Microsoft Dynamics GP, and one or more will offer just what you are looking for. It can be well worth your time to take a look at some of these third party tools, but chances are, you’ll find that the best and easiest to use budgeting tool is already built right into Microsoft Dynamics GP right out of the box: the Budgeting Wizard.

The Budgeting Wizard for Microsoft Dynamics GP utilizes Microsoft Excel to enable you to easily import your budget data. The Budgeting Wizard will guide you through each step of the process to create an Excel template, the basis of your import, and you just fill out the spreadsheet with the monthly amounts and re-import the data with the Budgeting Wizard.

To open the Budgeting Wizard, go to Cards > Budgets > New, and select “using Budget Wizard for Excel.” Enter data into each field, then click Next. Select a calculation method and account types to include. You can also choose to combine budgets into a master budget. Click Finish, and a Microsoft Excel file is created. Fill in the amounts and you are good to go.

Don’t alter the layout of the spreadsheet. Making changes to the spreadsheet layout can cause the importation process to not work. To add budgets to your Management Reporter reports, just select them in your column definition. And before importing a budget, remember to first set up the fiscal year in Microsoft Dynamics GP!
