Short Preview in store for Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) 2016

Tim Wappat got a sneak preview of what Microsoft has in store for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016, and he shared some of the juicy tidbits on his Dynamic Code Blocks blog. Wappat attended a presentation on Microsoft Dynamics GP delivered by Gary Tronson, Engineering Manager at Microsoft, at the m-hance Dynamic Business Conference in London. Nothing is official from Microsoft’s end yet, but you can see some of what they are working on delivering in the updated Microsoft Dynamics GP Roadmap that Wappat shared. He also says that as of now, Microsoft is looking at a May 2016 release for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016.

Wappat got to see a demo of the fully HTML5 web client in Microsoft Dynamics GP, and he says that “it looked very finished and very smart.” This will enable users to use the GP client on any device that supports an HTML5 browser. And that’s any browser, he adds, such as Firefox or Chrome. Microsoft is testing the new web client for compatibility with ISV solutions, and Wappat says that in testing they “look better than in standard GP client.”

Wappat points out that there’s nothing to gain from holding out for the new web client, as this will be a seamless upgrade for users. Nothing is changing other than HTML5 being pushed to the browser.

Wappat listed a bunch of other enhancements Microsoft is working on for 2016, noting again that none of this is official yet.
