| Warehouse Management
System (WMS)
MIG & Co. has been instrumental in bringing many companies
into the 21st century, as far as technology is concerned. One system
that literally transforms a distribution or manufacturing business
into an end-to-end mapped business process is a WMS utilizing bar
coding, hang held scanners, and lot/serial management.
Background
Our client found that they were unable to accurately determine exactly
what was the inventory for a given item, without calling the warehouse
and sending a worker out to physically check for stock. This was
a problem for Customer Service and was impacting customer satisfaction.
Solutions/Integrated Functions
We created an integrated solution by implementing the Microsoft Dynamics Business Solutions Great Plains (GP) with Radio Beacon Warehouse Management
Systems. The solution works as part of a complete end-to-end e-business
solution by integrating radio-frequency (RF) and bar-coding technologies,
shipping systems, and other warehouse automation equipment with
the Sales Order, Inventory Control, and Purchase Order modules.
This solution provided management with accurate inventory information
in real-time.
The objectives of this solution were to increase the accuracy of
all inventories and to improve response to customers' inquiries
on open orders. The system developed encompassed a completed overhaul
of our client’s business processes and covered every operation
from Order Entry to Shipping and Invoicing. We limited the customizations
to the Great Plains (GP) system, taking advantage of inherent functionality
to map current business processes to the system.
Return On Investment
Microsoft Dynamics Business Solutions Great Plains (GP) , combined with Radio
Beacon, improved the allocation of human resources within the warehouse,
so orders were accurately picked, packed, and shipped, putting nearly
100% picking and shipping accuracy within reach of every warehouse.
The system enabled plants to achieve better inventory accuracy,
and it virtually eliminated just-in-case stock and reduced overall
plant inventory. This freed capital for other corporate needs and
dramatically improved customer satisfaction. Several plant managers
commented that this was the first time that they had an accurate
inventory of raw materials, as well as finished goods.
The client was able to conduct physical inventories in much less
time, using fewer employees. In most cases, this freed the office
staff from needing to pitch in to take inventory.
