Looking Further Ahead: Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) 2015 R3

Lately we’ve been looking at some of the new features coming with the next release of Microsoft Dynamics GP, Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 R2, which is expected to drop in May or June of this year. Microsoft gave a sneak peak at some of the new features at Convergence last month, particularly the new “all-in-one” document viewer and a new time management application. But Microsoft also gave a sneak peak at the release that will follow that one, further on down the road(map).

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 R3 will feature a new HTML 5 web client. The planning and development of the client will go beyond a single release, and that is why Microsoft has been talking about it now, well ahead of its arrival. This new web client will support multiple devices and browsers, and it will replace the current web client, which is Silverlight-based.

The Microsoft Dynamics GP team is working closely with the Office 365 and Windows 10 teams to align the new web client’s user interface with other interface updates across Microsoft tools and products. There is still much development work to go on the new approach, but at Convergence, Microsoft demonstrated how the navigation will change to a collapsible left-column list that is both touch and mouse friendly.

The new web client design will move the Microsoft Dynamics GP web client toward a single flat view. Microsoft Dynamics GP’s R&D principal program manager, Chad Sogge, said at Convergence that “when a card comes up, it will be a card. Work on the card, move away from the card, and move on to something else. We are moving to that design.”
