This week Microsoft announced the acquisition of Datazen Software, an industry leader in mobile business intelligence (BI) and data visualization on Windows, iOS, and Android devices. SQL Server Enterprise Edition customers with version 2008 or later and Software Assurance can already download the Datazen Server software at no additional cost. Datazen solutions will complement Microsoft’s own Power BI for now, and over time, Datazen will be integrated into Power BI.
Datazen’s BI product was born just three years ago. It is a mobile BI solution for customers who need a solution that is implemented on-premises, and from the start, it struck the right balance between power and simplicity. The Datazen team will remain intact following the acquisition by Microsoft, and will continue to develop the solution and add new features. As an on-premises solution, Datazen is a complement to Microsoft’s cloud-based Power BI service.
The acquisition accelerates Microsoft’s Power BI strategy to help organizations create a data culture with easy-to-use, accessible tools to extract maximum value from their data—from anywhere, and on any device. With the pervasive use of mobile devices at work these days, mobile BI is the big wave not of the future, but of the here and now.
Datazen is optimized for SQL Server Analysis Services and the overall Microsoft platform. It enables rich, interactive data visualization and key performance indicators (KPIs) on all major mobile platforms. And now, millions of people around the world will be able to visualize and interact with their data on their mobile devices of choice, using the native mobile apps available at no charge at their relevant app stores.
