A Closer Look at Microsoft Dynamics SL 2015 CU1 Web AppsMicrosoft Dynamics SL web apps were introduced a year ago to give users mobile access to the system from anywhere and from any device. The initial web apps were for time and expense entry, and the web apps delivered last fall covered project functionality such as maintenance, delegations, and document and budget approval.

In May of this year, a new batch of web apps was delivered with the latest release, Microsoft Dynamics SL 2015 CU1, and included the following:

  • Payroll timecard
  • Payroll advanced timecard
  • Item request entry
  • Item request approval
  • Reporting (web ROI)
  • Project maintenance assign users to tasks
  • Employee and resource maintenance
  • Employee position/rate maintenance
  • Project budgeting
  • Employee utilization module
  • Resource planning by resource
  • Resource planning by project

Getting Started With Dynamics SL Web Apps

To log on to the web apps, you fill in your company, user name, and password. You can set it up to use your Windows user ID or your Microsoft Dynamics SL user ID. After you log on, you will see the following categories:

  • Project
  • Resource Management
  • Inventory
  • Requisitions
  • Payroll
  • Shared
  • Administration
  • Options

Clicking on any of the categories will cause it to expand and display its subcategories. For example, clicking on Project will cause it to expand and display the following subcategories:

  • Timecard Entry
  • Expense Entry
  • Approvals
  • Project Maintenance
  • Employee Position/Rate Maintenance
  • Employee and Resource Maintenance
  • Project Analyst

Timecard and Expense Entry were the first web apps introduced, but the interface for each has been improved into a grid interface with the release of Microsoft Dynamics SL 2015 CU1, a response to customer feedback. You can attach documents, including pictures taken with the very phone with which you are accessing the system (of receipts, for example).

The new Employee and Resource Maintenance web app enables you to set up a new employee or resource, or to pull up an existing one and edit the information. Similarly, another new web app enables you to set up employee position and rate information without having to come into the office.
